A HUGE thank you needs to go out to the Moose Jaw Police Association, working in partnership with Roots of Empathy. They were at St. Mary School on Thursday morning gearing up for Christmas with a program called “Shop with Cops.” They brought with them gifts for both the moms and dads of the household. Students could then shop for a unique gift for their parents. Their goal behind this project was to work closely with the youth of our community and foster positive relationships between youth and the officers. This visit did much more than that however. It also helped our grade 4/5 classroom spread Christmas cheer to their parents as well.
“This is about the joy on the child’s face when they can shop independently for a gift for their parents.”
The gifts were wrapped by our local officers and volunteers, so now each child who participated has something to put under the Christmas tree! Thank you to both the Moose Jaw Police Association as well as Roots of Empathy for demonstrating the giving spirit of Advent with our school. From the staff and students and families of St. Mary we want to wish you a Merry Christmas!
We have began our cooking group for Grades 5 and 6 students. We meet twice a month to teach students about healthy food choices and how to maintain good eating habits throughout life. The first meeting we made pancakes, which were enjoyed by all.

For the past couple of years St. Mary has been running a successful nutrition program within our school that provided breakfast and lunch for students in need. The program has proven to be successful evidenced by positive transformations in the students both academically and emotionally. Children learn best when their physical needs are met. In providing a nutritious breakfast and lunch, we will help ensure all children have the best learning opportunity
However, this year due to some lack of funding from grants we are no longer receiving, our Nutrition Program budget is significantly lower than usual. If you are able to donate items or are willing to give a cash donation to support this program, we would be very grateful. Cash donations of more than $20.00 will receive a charitable donations receipt for tax purposes. If you have any questions, please speak with Ms. Inglis or Mrs. Phipps at the school.
